Musée Provence : Découvrez notre savoir-faire au musée du Calisson

Are you planning to spend a holiday in our beautiful region of Provence soon? In addition to discovering our incredible historical heritage, our breathtaking landscapes and our very special gastronomy, take the opportunity to discover a little more about the most famous of Provençal sweets: calisson! Our museum in Provence will make you discover this incredible speciality of our region through a fun and entertaining route.

Provence Museum: the Calisson Museum plunges you into the heart of its production

Our museum in Aix en Provence is located just ten minutes from the city centre. We have chosen to retrace in this museum all the history of the manufacture of our favourite Provençal confectionery. The calisson is made from candied fruit (traditionally, melon is used) and ground almonds that are covered with royal icing.

The name would come from the word “câlin” in Provençal, following the exclamation that Queen Jeanne would have pronounced at the time of her marriage in the 15th century by tasting the delicacy of Roy René : “di calin soun” (“they are hugs”). The name would have distorted itself to give today the term of calisson that we know !

You will learn all this and much more by visiting our Calisson museum. It is even possible at the end of the visit to make your own calissons, your small personal delights made with your hands!
